Quality Assurance Manager

Managed receiving inspection and production floor quality audit functions for the largest specialty label printer company serving the automotive, pharmaceutical, postal, medical, financial, retail distribution, defense, transportation and shipping industries with sales of more than $900 million.

  • Transferred quality assurance functions to China for seven desktop and seven mobile printers as part of the manufacturing transition program, representing 50% of the company’s total products. Instrumental in improving China’s production significantly.

  • Set up key quality assurance functions at global suppliers, which reduced the number of parts requiring incoming inspection from 40% to 16% in the first year.

  • Reduced the defect rate of outgoing products by 75% for desktop products and by 68% for mobile printers.

  • Managed quality audits of Chinese production and worked with Chinese management and engineers to eliminate root causes of identified problems.

  • Reduced time for first article and normal receipt inspections from 6 days to less than 3 days and from 5 days to less than 2 days, respectively.

Quality Assurance Manager (1998-2006)

Managed quality assurance for the automotive and industrial products divisions of a transducer manufacturer for Ford, General Motors, Volkswagen, BMW and Chrysler automobile companies, as well as Johnson Controls and Atlas Copco companies with a team of 20 quality engineers and technicians.

  • Led cross-functional teams in reducing scrap by $1.1 million in the first year.

  • Completed the Six Sigma Black Belt program and coached other Six Sigma teams.

  • Transitioned the company from ISO-9001:1994 to ISO-9001:2000 and ISO/TS16949 (automotive quality system).

  • Created a corrective action tracking system that reduced by 76% the number of investigations open for more than 3 weeks.

  • Led ISO-14001 environmental certification.

  • Managed customer and regulatory (UL, CSA and VDA) quality assurance audit teams.

Quality Assurance Supervisor (1993-1995)

Managed supplier and work-in-process quality for a manufacturer of audio electronics with revenues of $3 billion.

  • Introduced and implemented the use of statistical quality control techniques, which lowered failure and rejection rates.

  • Translated new product engineering specifications, drawings and data into supplier and manufacturing process controls for fabricated products, parts and components.

  • Enhanced supplier quality control procedures and performance.

Supplier Engineer (1990-1993)

Managed purchasing operations with 20 contract manufacturers and component vendors, providing assemblies used in automotive audio electronics. Annual purchases amounted to $28 million.

  • Earned the highest quality assurance rating by the Ford Motor Company out of 83 suppliers.

  • Introduced the company’s Advanced Quality Planning system to each vendor, preventing new product introduction problems.

  • Trained four inspectors to assist suppliers with quality analysis, reducing the frequency of defects.

Quality Information Systems Engineer

Responsible for quality information systems, including process control for a manufacturer of high-speed, high-capacity disk drives for super computer applications.

  • Developed a user-friendly, statistical process control application that provided quick and detailed information as to when manufacturing processes were not performing to specifications.

  • Resolved a plating problem at a key vendor and installed a statistical process control system that prevented the problems reoccurrence.

  • Standardized incoming inspection methods.

Burroughs/Memorex Corporation, Westlake Village, California                                                           1979-1985

Quality Assurance Engineer

Recruited to set up and manage quality control for a manufacturer of computer information storage equipment.

  • Awarded an overseas assignment on a high visibility project, which developed one of the first stand alone ATM machines.

  • Participated on the new product development team responsible for quality control procedures and systems.

  • Transferred the manufacturing of a line of disk drives from Westlake Village to Santa Clara. This included moving equipment, manufacturing processes and quality controls.


Served as Quality Assurance Engineer for Pacesetter Systems, Inc., a class one medical device manufacturer, and as Receiving Inspection Supervisor for American Telecommunications Corporation, an electro-mechanical communications equipment manufacturer. Began career at Avon Products Inc. as a Chemist/ Microbiologist.
