Vice President of Corporate Communications/Investor Relations Officer

Managed strategic planning for public, customer, investor and employee relations for a listed, regulated water and wastewater utility with $221 million in revenues and operations in nine states. Reported directly to the Chief Executive Officer/Chairman of the Board and managed a staff of five.

  • Served as a member of the executive management team in strategy and policy setting, and held an advisory role to the board of directors.

  • Steered the company through investor concerns related to a major financial restatement and a subsequent private equity sale to J.P. Morgan for $475 million. Was instrumental in obtaining shareholder approval of the sale.

  • Chaired the Disclosure Committee, providing leadership in subject matter, editing and final approval on securities filings (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and proxy materials).

  • Acted as the media and financial spokesperson for news, strategies and financial performance. 

  • Developed investor communications collateral, including earnings releases, teleconference scripts, investor presentations and the annual report to shareholders. 

  • Designed and implemented an award-winning national re-branding campaign, unifying 14 regional brands. This included creating a new brand logo, collateral materials, advertising, an employee newsletter and stockholder materials.

  • Managed marketing communications, including the development of new brochures, advertisements, trade booth displays, marketing materials and an award-winning corporate website redesign.

  • Created the company’s first formal new client proposal process, and oversaw the preparation of all proposals submitted for accuracy, completeness, marketability and presentation.

  • Supervised employee communications, including monthly newsletters and launch of employee only Intranet. Implemented a quarterly Chief Executive Officer Webcast and a bi-weekly blog.

  • Created and implemented a crisis communication plan for public stakeholders (shareholders, customers, corporate partners and employees) of the company’s turnaround progress.

  • Rebuilt a positive opinion of customer centric brands through targeted messages and a media outreach program to trade publications.

  • Acted as the media and financial spokesperson for news, strategies and financial performance.

  • Created an executive management team script and Q&A materials for employee meetings to amplify the progress of the new management team’s turnaround plan.

Created and implemented a financial communications plan beginning at the company’s initial public offering (IPO) and its subsequent growth to a market capitalization of $8 billion.

  • Provided communications oversight on the team that raised more than $400 million through common stock, preferred stock and senior note offerings, as well as two corporate mergers and one tender offer.

  • Created communication pieces, including press releases, corporate brochures, retail trade publication fact sheets and earnings teleconference scripts. Developed and managed the layout, design, and publication of the annual and quarterly reports.
