Managed the life cycle of a thermal printer line for the largest specialty label printing company servicing the automotive, pharmaceutical, postal, medical, financial, retail distribution, warehousing, defense, transportation and shipping industries with sales of $900 million. The thermal printer line consisted of ten models, generating $160 million in annual revenues with gross margins of up to 53%.
Created, launched and managed the production of 60 customized models and accessories. These models attained 100% growth in sales over the last eight years, representing 2.5 million units sold. Marketed products through various distribution channels, including multi-tier distribution, retail and direct-to-end-user.
Participated on the executive team that initiated the company’s decision to outsource all manufacturing to China.
Created a planning process used to supply products from distribution centers in Camarillo, Singapore and Heerenveen, The Netherlands. This process reduced SKU count by 50%, finished goods inventory, order lead times and product costs.
Working closely with marketing and sales, developed intermediate- and long-range product plans using Six Sigma concepts. New product development included customer needs (Voice of the Customer – VOC) and industry trend setters (Key Opinion Leaders – KOL).
Directed the release of an industry-first wireless interface (802.11 b/g and Bluetooth) and LCD display for a new line of desktop printers, which will replace all existing products.
Determined monthly production schedules for the thermal printer line, taking into account prior sales, current demand and forecasts from the Sales, Manufacturing and Purchasing Departments.
Made thermal printer line presentations at sales, distributor and end-user meetings covering product features, competitive product analyses, modifications and future planning. Acted as the technical expert for the thermal printer line for sales training and demonstrations.
Fielded customer complaints and/or suggestions and made sure that all pertinent departments were involved in responding through engineering, manufacturing, quality and sales actions.
