Led hospital efforts to provide community education and outreach services in the East San Gabriel Valley.  Held multiple leadership positions in Chambers of Commerce, not-for-profit organizations and local community agencies, integrating the hospital into the community.

  • Developed 125 health fairs, immunization clinics, health screening programs, senior expos and community events involving 150 community agencies, reaching 200,000 community members.

  • Presided over or served on 42 hospital and community boards of directors or committees leading to 145 community improvement projects.

  • Marketed physician and hospital services to the northeast San Gabriel Valley.

  • Instructed health education classes, including stress management, arthritis and fibromyalgia self-help, cancer prevention, and breast health classes for 1,500 participants.

  • Designed educational curriculum and marketing materials for 50 health education programs that reached 150,000 individuals.

  • Led a community-wide initiative that reached 25,000 residents and made Glendora one of only 35 cities in the state to be designated a “California Healthy City”.

  • Collected, compiled and analyzed data for community needs assessments and community benefit reports, including surveys of 250 community groups, interviews with 25 community stakeholders and ten focus groups.

Adjunct Instructor, Community Service Learning

Taught undergraduate classes in the value of community service for not-for-profit organizations for a private, accredited university with 7,372 students.

  • Created partnerships between the university and 26 not-for-profit organizations that led to 245 volunteer student placements. 

  • Instructed undergraduate students and facilitated discussions on the importance of community engagement and civic responsibility.

  • Counseled students on matching career goals with service learning sites.

  • Developed curriculum and exercises for students to reflect on values and optimize learning experiences in volunteering.

  • Consulted with the Assistant Vice President of Undergraduate Programs to determine effectiveness and alignment of the curriculum with university goals and objectives.

Veterans Administration Medical Center, Sepulveda, California                                                          1991-1994

Wellness Program Coordinator

Developed and coordinated a comprehensive wellness program for 1,000 medical center employees.

  • Supervised all aspects of the program, including health education classes; gym activities; golf, basketball and volleyball tournaments; special events; health fairs; and the marketing and evaluation of the program.

  • Created policies, procedures, forms, incentive programs and marketing materials used to initiate the wellness program.

  • Recruited 85 program volunteers and coordinated annual recognition events.

  • Developed comprehensive evaluation procedures that measured employee morale, satisfaction with the program and fitness levels.
